CMS in Talks with IndusLaw for Potential Alliance in India.
CMS is in discussions with Indian law firm IndusLaw to establish a presence in India through an alliance. The talks began around three and a half months ago and come in light of CMS' plans for global consolidation. This potential tie-up follows a series of significant exits from IndusLaw this year, including the departure of its entire capital markets group and infrastructure team.
IndusLaw, founded in 2000, has offices in five major Indian cities and approximately 400 lawyers. The alliance would make CMS the second international law firm to establish a presence in India, following Dentons' cooperation agreement with Link Legal in 2022.
CMS already has an India desk headed by corporate partner Babita Ambikar in London. The firm's focus in India includes advising on corporate law, investments, and work for startups. This potential alliance aligns with CMS' goal of becoming a global firm and addressing its current underscale presence in Asia.
