4-Partner A&O Shearman Group Decamps to Linklaters

Return to Feed

Four Partners from A&O Shearman Join Linklaters Finance Practice in New York.

Four partners from A&O Shearman in New York have joined Linklaters' finance practice, strengthening the firm's derivatives, securitization, and restructuring capabilities. The group includes David Lucking, John Hwang, Derek Poon, and Dan Guyder, all of whom were legacy Allen & Overy lawyers. Lucking was previously the global co-head of financial markets at A&O Shearman, while Hwang was a former member of the U.S. executive committee and global equity committee at legacy Allen & Overy.

This move comes about six months after the completion of the Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling merger. The partners are joining Linklaters alongside George Casey and Heiko Schiwek, two former top Shearman & Sterling M&A partners who joined Linklaters in January. This recruitment aligns with Linklaters' strategy to build a strong talent team in the U.S. as part of its global offering.

The new partners bring diverse expertise to Linklaters. Lucking specializes in derivatives and structured finance transactions, Hwang and Poon were leaders in asset finance and securitization at A&O Shearman, and Guyder has extensive experience in representing creditors and debtors in restructurings and cross-border insolvency proceedings.
