Freshfields Considers Texas and Boston Expansion as US Growth Powers Firm's Revenue.

Freshfields, a UK-founded law firm, is exploring potential expansion into Texas and Boston as part of its ongoing US growth strategy. The firm's US operations have been a significant driver of revenue growth in recent years, with the American market accounting for 87% of the firm's overall growth from 2021 to 2023. This expansion has been fueled by aggressive hiring practices, particularly in Silicon Valley, where Freshfields launched an office in 2020.

The firm's US presence has grown substantially, with over 90 partners and around 500 lawyers currently employed, representing a doubling of headcount over the past five years. Freshfields has successfully attracted talent from top-tier firms on both coasts, including Cravath Swaine & Moore, Cleary Gottlieb, Davis Polk & Wardwell, and others.

Freshfields' US revenue reached £311 million in 2023, accounting for less than 20% of the firm's total global revenue of £1.8 billion. However, if the current growth trend continues, the US business could generate around £550 million in revenue by fiscal 2025. The firm's expansion strategy focuses on providing comprehensive global services to major clients, with a particular emphasis on the tech industry and antitrust work.

While the firm remains committed to growing its European presence, the US market continues to be a primary focus for expansion. Freshfields is currently evaluating the need for a fourth US office, with Texas and Boston under consideration. The firm's leadership, including senior partner Georgia Dawson, emphasizes that any expansion decisions will be driven by client needs and market opportunities.
